Time & Billing
How time entries feed into T&M cost summaries, rates applied, and unbillable WOs.
Last updated: February 2026
Overview
For Charge-up (T&M) work orders, every time entry contributes to the billable cost summary. The rate applied depends on the technician's profile rate or their company role tier rate.
How Time Entries Generate Billing
- 1A technician logs a time entry against a Charge-up work order.
- 2VesselOne looks up the applicable rate: profile override rate first, then company role tier rate.
- 3The entry is costed: hours × rate = line item cost.
- 4The work order cost summary updates in real time to reflect all logged entries.
Non-Billable Work Orders
If a work order is marked as non-billable (Is Billable = false), time entries are still recorded but do not generate billable amounts. This is useful for internal work, training, or business operations that should not be charged to any client.
Non-billable hours still count toward total hours worked for payroll purposes.
No Rate Warning
If a technician's profile has no individual rate set, and no company role tier rate exists for their role, a warning is displayed on the work order cost summary. The time entry is recorded with a zero rate and will not contribute to the billing total until a rate is configured.
Always configure company rates in Settings → Rates before starting Charge-up work orders.
